Surrey Signs Indian Fast Bowler Auqib Nabi

Surrey has officially signed Indian fast bowler Auqib Nabi for their next three matches in the County Championship. The talented player from Jammu and Kashmir will participate in Division One matches against Yorkshire, Sussex, and Glamorgan.

According to a post by Surrey cricket on X, "Surrey have secured the services of Indian seam bowler Auqib Nabi for the next three County Championship matches. Auqib Nabi was integral to Jammu & Kashmir winning their first Ranji Trophy title this year, winning the Player of the Year award thanks to his 60 wickets." Read more here

Outstanding Performance in Domestic Cricket

Nabi had a remarkable domestic season, playing a crucial role in Jammu and Kashmir's first Ranji Trophy victory. He was also called up as a replacement for the renowned pacer Jasprit Bumrah during two Tests against Sri Lanka, although he did not get a chance to play as India opted for Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj instead.

During the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, the 29-year-old bowler took an impressive 60 wickets across 10 matches (17 innings), achieving an average of 12.56. His performance included seven five-wicket hauls, making him the tournament's leading wicket-taker.

IPL Experience

Following his success in domestic cricket, Nabi was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 8.4 crore during the 2026 IPL auction. He participated in five matches but unfortunately did not take any wickets, with an economy rate of 11.46.

Surrey's Connection with Indian Players

Surrey has a history of signing Indian players, including Sai Sudharsan, who had brief stints in 2023 and 2024, and Mahipal Lomror, who was signed for six matches earlier this month. Additionally, Indian spinner Rahul Chahar is currently contracted with the club.

Nabi has received all necessary work visa approvals and has already boarded the first available flight. He is anticipated to make his debut against Yorkshire at The Oval on Wednesday.
