Atul Bora Sets Sights on 2029 Lok Sabha Elections After Ticket Denial

In a recent press conference, he confirmed his plans to remain politically active in the Dimoria constituency while expressing loyalty to the party. With the BJP nominating Pradyut Bordoloi for Dispur, Bora's future moves will be closely watched in the evolving political landscape.

Atul Bora's Political Strategy

Guwahati, Mar 22: After being denied a ticket for Dispur, BJP member Atul Bora has decided to take a strategic approach, announcing his intention to run for the Guwahati seat in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

During a press conference on Sunday, Bora revealed that he had already discussed his plans with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a recent meeting.

“I informed the Chief Minister at my home that I plan to contest from Guwahati in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. I will be entering the electoral race in 2029,” he stated.

For the time being, Bora has dismissed any thoughts of immediate rebellion. Following the party's decision to withhold the Dispur ticket, he mentioned that he and his supporters had considered three options: running as an independent candidate, supporting Congress candidate Mira Borthakur, or remaining inactive.

“It is now clear that I will not run as an independent candidate,” he confirmed, effectively closing the door on any rebellious actions.

Instead, Bora indicated a shift in his focus, stating that he would remain politically engaged in the Dimoria constituency, which now encompasses areas like Mathgharia, Birkuchi, Noonmati, Narengi, and Satgaon due to recent delimitation.

“I have informed the Chief Minister that while I will not be involved in Dispur, I will actively work in Dimoria,” he added.

The BJP has nominated Pradyut Bordoloi, a newcomer from Congress, for the Dispur seat.

Just a day prior, Sarma acknowledged Bora's disappointment but emphasized that he continues to be a valued member of the party.

“Due to political changes, we were unable to nominate Atul Bora. It’s natural for him to feel upset, but he will remain active, especially in Dimoria,” the Chief Minister remarked.

Although the denial of the ticket has altered his immediate plans, Bora's decision to stay loyal to the BJP while aiming for the 2029 elections demonstrates a calculated approach, balancing his ambitions with party loyalty as Assam approaches a significant election period.
