Incident Overview

A shocking incident unfolded in the Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad on Saturday evening when a young woman was reportedly targeted for kidnapping by an e-rickshaw driver. The victim was returning home when the driver began to divert her onto a deserted and unfamiliar route. Thanks to her quick thinking and loud cries for help, nearby residents intervened and apprehended the driver, subjecting him to a severe beating.

Details of the Incident

The victim, a resident of the Gaur City Degree Circle area, had boarded the e-rickshaw driven by a man named Raju in the Chhijarsi (NH-9) region. She alleged that instead of taking her to her destination, the driver intentionally turned onto a dark and isolated path. Realizing something was amiss and feeling increasingly anxious, she began to scream for help.

Crowd Reaction and Police Involvement

Hearing her cries, passersby and local residents quickly gathered at the scene. They surrounded the e-rickshaw and forcibly removed the driver. Fearing a kidnapping, the enraged crowd beat Raju severely. The Indirapuram police arrived shortly after and rescued the driver from the mob, taking him into custody.

The arrested individual, Raju, is reportedly from near a liquor store in Kanavani village, Indirapuram. However, an interesting twist occurred when the victim and her family refused to file a formal complaint with the police.

Police Actions and Ongoing Investigation

According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Indirapuram, due to the absence of an official complaint from the victim, the police have filed a preventive charge against the driver under Section 151 for disturbing the peace. Nevertheless, authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the driver's actions and why he chose to divert to a secluded area. Further legal actions will be determined based on the findings from the inquiry.
