Auniati Satra's Satradhikar, Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami in London

Jorhat, June 12: The rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Assam's Vaishnavite tradition is poised to gain international recognition as Dr. Pitambar Dev Goswami, the Satradhikar of Auniati Satra, prepares to speak at the British Parliament in London next week.

Dr. Goswami arrived in London on Thursday to take part in a special event aimed at presenting Assam's vibrant Vaishnavite heritage and Sattriya culture to British lawmakers and the Assamese community residing in the UK.

A meeting is set for June 17 in Committee Room 15 of the British Parliament, where Dr. Goswami will deliver a keynote address discussing the historical significance of Assam's Vaishnavite movement and its lasting impact on the region's social and cultural landscape.

Upon his arrival, Dr. Goswami, along with young devotees and supporters, received a warm reception from the Assamese community in London. Following Vaishnavite customs, he established a temporary sacred seat for Mahaprabhu Srimanta Sankardev at the home of an Assamese expatriate before beginning his activities.

"I hope the remarkable journey of Assamese Sattriya culture continues in this manner. Whenever we travel abroad, we carry Mahaprabhu with us. We refrain from eating until Mahaprabhu has been ceremonially installed and worshipped. I am truly pleased to have set up Mahaprabhu's seat here in London today," stated Dr. Goswami.

Approximately 62 Members of Parliament are anticipated to attend the event, which will be led by senior British parliamentarian Bob Blackman.

The two-hour program, scheduled from 6 pm to 8 pm (London time), will not only include Dr. Goswami's address but also feature performances that highlight Assam's Sattriya dance and musical traditions.

Dr. Goswami's speech is expected to last around 30 minutes, followed by an hour-long cultural presentation that will showcase the artistic and spiritual heritage linked to the Vaishnavite tradition. An interactive Q&A session will also be part of the event.

This significant occasion aims to enhance and celebrate Assamese identity on a global platform.
