Expansion of Road Connectivity in Assam

The initiative is expected to build upon the road development work undertaken under the Asom Mala programme

Guwahati, Aug 19: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a significant enhancement to the state's road connectivity efforts, unveiling Asom Mala 4.0, a ₹10,000-crore initiative aimed at boosting infrastructure in rural regions.

In a post on a microblogging platform, Sarma highlighted the government's commitment to improving connectivity throughout Assam, ensuring that rural areas are more integrated into the state's economic framework.

"Our goal is to enhance connectivity across every part of Assam. Following the establishment of a comprehensive road network, we are now poised to advance this initiative with Asom Mala 4.0, which will link rural Assam more closely to the state's economic narrative," stated the Chief Minister.

Details provided by Sarma indicate that Asom Mala 4.0 will concentrate on developing approximately 800 km of roads, further bolstering the state's road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity in rural and underserved regions.

This initiative is designed to build on the previous road development efforts under the Asom Mala programme, which has become a cornerstone of the Assam government's infrastructure strategy.

The latest phase aims to enhance last-mile connectivity, establishing better road links between rural communities and key economic, administrative, and commercial hubs.

Improved road infrastructure is anticipated to ease the movement of people and goods, enhance access to markets and services, and stimulate economic activities in rural areas.

The Chief Minister's announcement aligns with Assam's ongoing focus on infrastructure development as a vital aspect of its broader economic transformation strategy.

The government has been stressing the importance of improved connectivity to attract investments, promote trade and tourism, and connect remote and rural areas with the state's emerging economic centers.

Through Asom Mala 4.0, the state government aims to further extend the road network, ensuring that rural Assam directly benefits from the ongoing development and growth.

This ₹10,000-crore initiative is expected to play a crucial role in Assam's next phase of infrastructure-driven development.
