Guwahati, June 29: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the Central Government's investment of Rs 15,431 crore for the expansion of the Baihata Chariali-Mission Chariali-Tezpur segment of National Highway-15 will greatly enhance connectivity within the state, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient travel.
In a social media update, CM Sarma highlighted this ambitious highway initiative as a pivotal move towards bolstering Assam's infrastructure development and enhancing access to economic prospects throughout the region.
He stated, "When I discuss development, I envision connectivity that brings individuals closer to opportunities. The Rs 15,431 crore expansion of the Baihata Chariali-Mission Chariali-Tezpur stretch of NH-15 is a significant stride in that direction, facilitating quicker, safer, and seamless travel."
This project aims to enhance road connectivity between central and upper Assam by widening and upgrading a crucial section of National Highway-15, which is one of the primary transport routes in the state.
The improved highway is anticipated to boost connectivity to vital commercial hubs, educational institutions, and tourist attractions in the area.
This initiative is part of the Central Government's larger effort to modernize highway infrastructure in the Northeast, a region that has seen considerable investments in roads, bridges, railways, and airports in recent years.
The Assam government has consistently emphasized that enhanced transport infrastructure is essential for attracting investments, creating jobs, and ensuring equitable regional development.
The Baihata Chariali-Mission Chariali-Tezpur corridor is a crucial link connecting Guwahati with Sonitpur and various districts in upper Assam.
The upgraded highway is also expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow and strengthen connectivity with the neighboring state of Arunachal Pradesh.
