Assam's Chief Minister Takes Action Against Illegal Immigrants

In a recent move, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported the repatriation of 24 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as part of a broader initiative to combat unauthorized residency in the state. Sarma humorously wished the deported individuals a 'pleasant journey' while emphasizing the state's commitment to returning those who have strayed across the border. This action is part of a larger crackdown on illegal immigration, particularly following unrest in Bangladesh last year, which has heightened security along the India-Bangladesh border. Government's Initiative to Address Illegal Immigration

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that 24 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were repatriated on Tuesday as part of the state's ongoing campaign against unauthorized residents.

In a sarcastic tone, Sarma wished the deported individuals a 'pleasant journey.' He shared images of the repatriated Bangladeshis on the social media platform X, humorously stating, 'These poor souls were lost. We showed them the way and sent them home.'

He further remarked, 'Sometimes, people forget where they belong and wander across the border. However, as a compassionate nation, we return them to their rightful place.'

Sarma confirmed that the 24 Bangladeshis were sent back during the day. The Assam police have initiated a statewide crackdown on illegal immigrants, particularly targeting those from Bangladesh who lack valid documentation.

In light of the unrest in the neighboring country last year, vigilance along the 1,885-kilometer India-Bangladesh border in the Northeast has been intensified. In recent months, Assam has sent back 450 alleged infiltrators.
