Assam Police Personnel Honored with Gallantry Medals on Independence Day

On Independence Day, 15 personnel from Assam were honored with gallantry and service medals for their exceptional dedication and bravery. This recognition includes one President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and 11 Medals for Meritorious Service. Notable awardees include Inspector General Devojyoti Mukherjee and several other police and fire service personnel. The awards highlight the commitment of security forces across the Northeast, with various states also recognizing their personnel for distinguished service. New Delhi, Aug 15: On the occasion of Independence Day, a total of 15 members from Assam have been honored with gallantry and service medals, acknowledging their exceptional dedication, bravery, and commitment to duty.

This year's awards include one President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and 11 Medals for Meritorious Service, celebrating the contributions of personnel in various fields such as policing, firefighting, civil defense, home guards, and correctional services.

Inspector General of Police Devojyoti Mukherjee is the distinguished recipient of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service from Assam this year.

The 11 Assam Police personnel awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service are Inspector General V Siva Prasad Ganjala, Assistant Inspector General Sarmistha Barua, Commandant Santanu Kumar Dutta, and Superintendents of Police Amitav Basumatary, Subhasish Baruah, and Suman Chakraborty. Additionally, Deputy Superintendent of Police Aker Ali, Lance Naiks Ripon Paul, Nanda Tripura, Surajit Mozumder, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Prabin Baro have also been recognized.

Furthermore, two fire service members from Assam, Leading Fireman Lohit Saikia and Sub-Officer Md Shaha Alom Sikdar, have received honors. Abiram Islary, a Platoon Commander, has been acknowledged in the Home Guard and Civil Defence category.

Throughout the Northeast, numerous security personnel have been celebrated for their gallantry and distinguished service. From Arunachal Pradesh, Superintendent of Police Sudhanshu Dhama has been awarded the Medal for Gallantry, the only such recognition for the region.

Manipur has received one President’s Medal for Distinguished Service along with six Medals for Meritorious Service, while Meghalaya boasts three recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service. In Mizoram, one individual has been awarded the Medal for Gallantry, with two others receiving Medals for Meritorious Service. Nagaland has one recipient each of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and the Medal for Meritorious Service. Additionally, one police personnel from Sikkim and five from Tripura have also been honored with the Medal for Meritorious Service.
