Assam Police Conducts Search at Congress Leader's Residence in Delhi
Police Action Sparks Political Tensions
New Delhi: On Tuesday, Assam police arrived at the residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in Delhi. Accompanied by Delhi police, they conducted a search of Khera's home, although he was not present at the time. This incident has intensified political tensions between Assam and Delhi. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate commented that Himanta Biswa Sarma is panicking and attempting to intimidate through police action. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that he was unaware of the Assam police's actions, suggesting that the Congress leader might be hiding in Hyderabad. In a later statement, he claimed that Assam police could locate individuals even in the most concealed places.
Allegations Against Rinki Bhuyan Sarma
It is noteworthy that Pawan Khera had previously alleged in a press conference that Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Assam's Chief Minister, possesses three foreign passports and has multiple companies registered abroad under her name. Following these allegations, a complaint was lodged against her with the Assam police. ACP Debojit Nath from Assam police confirmed that a case has been registered against Khera at the Guwahati crime branch police station. They were searching for him in connection with this case but could not locate him, leading to the search of his residence. Some objectionable materials were reportedly found, although details cannot be disclosed at this time. Electronic devices have been confiscated, and while there is no current information on his whereabouts, efforts to locate him will continue.
Sarbananda's Remarks on Kharge's Statements
On Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma responded to allegations made by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Khera. When asked about Kharge's intention to question the Foreign Minister regarding the fake passport issue, Sarma remarked that Kharge should have consulted the Foreign Minister before making such accusations. He criticized Kharge's statements as irrational, suggesting that at his age, he should refrain from making such claims. Sarma expressed skepticism that Rahul Gandhi might have provided Kharge with the documents in question, warning that this case could escalate to involve Gandhi. He cautioned against attempts to intimidate, asserting that Assam has a history of fighting against Islamic invasions.
Congress Leaders Respond
In response to the presence of Assam police at Khera's residence, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate stated that Khera has made serious allegations against Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family, backed by evidence. She questioned whom the Assam police were attempting to intimidate in Delhi, asserting that Sarma's choice of language and police deployment indicates his fear.
Kharge Breaks Silence
Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the situation, stating that they will see how the case unfolds and emphasized that no one is afraid. He mentioned the harassment tactics employed by agencies like the ED, Income Tax, and CBI. Congress leader Rashid Alvi added that any spokesperson's statements reflect the party's stance, and if an FIR is filed against a spokesperson, it is unlawful. He criticized the BJP for their constant allegations against Congress, suggesting that they could also file FIRs against BJP leaders, but such actions are not typical in politics.
