Assam Official Investigates Illegal Stone Mining at Doyang River
Inspection of Illegal Mining Activities
Jorhat, May 28: In response to rising concerns regarding unauthorized stone mining along the Assam-Nagaland border, Assam's Special Chief Secretary M.K. Yadav conducted a visit to the Doyang River area in Uriamghat on Thursday to evaluate the situation and promised necessary actions following a comprehensive review.
The official examined several sites within the Doyang River region where illegal stone extraction has been reported.
“Our visit today was aimed at thoroughly assessing the situation. Numerous complaints have been directed to the Chief Minister. Therefore, in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner, neutral forces, forest conservators, police, magistrates, and border magistrates, we conducted a site visit,” Yadav stated.
He emphasized that a detailed study would precede any decisions made regarding the matter.
“We will engage in discussions with higher authorities and the Nagaland government, as this area is part of the Disputed Area Belt (DAB). It is premature to make definitive statements at this point. We have also deployed drones for a more in-depth evaluation,” he added.
It is worth noting that Yadav had previously visited various locations along the Assam-Nagaland border on Wednesday due to allegations of illegal stone mining.
Regions such as Kherbari, Dalanipathar, and Madhupur in the Uriamghat area of the Sarupathar subdivision have reportedly experienced rampant stone mining activities allegedly conducted by organized stone mafias.
Additionally, local MLA Biswajit Phukan has vocally expressed his concerns regarding this issue through multiple social media posts, urging action against the purported illegal mining operations.
In light of his advocacy, a high-level team from Guwahati, led by Yadav, visited the impacted areas for an on-site evaluation.
