Assam Legislators Unite to Donate Salaries for Flood Relief Efforts

Legislators' Generous Contribution for Flood Relief

Guwahati, July 28 - In a commendable act of solidarity, all legislators in Assam, except those from the Raijor Dal, have pledged to donate their one-month salary to assist flood-affected individuals. Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Das announced that he and Deputy Speaker Habib Teron would also contribute their salaries for this noble cause. He added, “In addition to us, all employees of the assembly secretariat will donate one day's salary to support the victims' relief and rehabilitation efforts.”

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P. Hazarika welcomed this initiative, stating that all BJP legislators would also follow suit by donating their one-month salary.

Sharman Ali Ahmed, the sole MLA from the Trinamool Congress in the state, has also committed to donating his one-month salary for the benefit of flood-affected areas. Opposition leader Wazed Ali Chaudhary mentioned that the Congress party has contributed to flood relief efforts in recent days, and its legislators will also donate a month's salary for this purpose. Majibur Rahman, an MLA from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), remarked, “Our party president, Badruddin Ajmal, has already donated a significantly larger amount on behalf of the AIUDF.”

He further stated, “However, in line with the decisions made by other members, we will also contribute one month's salary.”

Pritviraj Rava, an MLA from the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), announced that all members of his party would do the same, while BPF's Paniram Brahma made a similar declaration. However, the Raijor Dal has not made any announcements regarding this matter. Party MLA Mahbub Mukhtar was present in the assembly but did not comment on the issue.

The Assembly Speaker expressed gratitude for everyone's cooperation in this initiative.
