Assam Leaders Take Oath as Rajya Sabha Members Amid Legislative Session

New Delhi, Apr 16: On Thursday, three prominent leaders from Assam, including Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowalla from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with Pramod Boro of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPP(L)), took their oaths as Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.

The ceremony occurred in the Upper House as the newly elected representatives officially began their duties at the start of the day's session.

With their induction into the Rajya Sabha, these leaders are expected to advocate for various issues pertinent to Assam, such as development, infrastructure, and regional concerns.

However, the House was adjourned for the day without any legislative business being conducted.

Prior to the adjournment, members held a moment of silence to honor the late veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on April 12 at the age of 92 in Mumbai, as well as senior Congress leader and former Union minister Mohsina Kidwai, who died on April 8 at the age of 94.

Chairman C P Radhakrishnan also acknowledged a significant scientific achievement for India, noting that the 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu reached its first criticality on April 6, marking a pivotal advancement in the nation’s nuclear energy initiative.

This development signifies India's progression into the second phase of its three-stage nuclear power strategy, enhancing long-term energy security and fostering indigenous technological advancements.

The House was then adjourned for the day.
