Assam HSLC Examination 2026 Results Announced with Improved Pass Rate

Guwahati, April 10: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has released the results for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026, showing an overall pass rate of 65.62%, which is an increase of approximately 2.5% compared to the previous year.


Top Performers

This year, Jyotimoy Das from Sankardev Sishu Niketan in Patacharkuchi (Bajali) achieved the highest score in the state. Akanksha Bhuyan from Ambikagiri Rai Choudhury Jatiya Vidyalaya in Biswanath secured the second position, while Jiya Farah Islam from Little Flower HS School in Dibrugarh and Surajit Akhtar from Little Flowers School in Nalbari shared the third rank.


Examination Statistics

Out of 438,564 candidates who registered, 429,249 participated in the examination, with 281,701 successfully passing. The number of students absent was 9,315, while five results were withheld and 135 candidates were expelled, as per official reports.


Performance Breakdown

Among those who passed, 85,189 students achieved first division, 150,167 secured second division, and 46,345 were in third division, indicating a gradual decrease in the number of students in the third division.


In terms of gender performance, boys had a pass rate of 67.78%, surpassing girls, who recorded 63.96%.


A total of 3,983 students earned distinction marks, while 13,681 received star marks, and 99,052 candidates achieved letter marks, showcasing strong academic performance statewide.


District Performance Highlights

Dima Hasao was recognized as the top-performing district with a remarkable pass percentage of 88.23%, followed by Sivasagar at 84.08% and Dibrugarh at 78.46%. Conversely, Cachar had the lowest pass percentage at 49.13%.


Official Statements

ASSEB Chairman R.C. Jain remarked that the results reflect consistent academic progress. He stated, “This year, 438,564 students registered, with 429,249 appearing for the examination. Of these, 281,701 passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 65.62%. The decline in third division candidates is notable, with Dima Hasao achieving the highest pass rate and Cachar the lowest.”


He also mentioned that compartmental examinations will take place in May for students who failed in up to three subjects and scored at least 170 aggregate marks.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu expressed satisfaction with the improved results, stating, “The pass percentage this year is 65.62%, which is about 2.5% higher than last year, indicating positive developments in the education sector.”


Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the successful candidates through a message on social media, encouraging perseverance for those who did not meet their expectations.


Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi also extended his congratulations, emphasizing that dedication leads to success and encouraging those who fell short to continue their efforts.
