Minister Ashok Singhal reviews three hospitals in Silchar

Silchar, Oct 28: Assam's Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ashok Singhal, emphasized enhancing the responsiveness of government hospitals to patient needs during his visit to Silchar on Wednesday. He highlighted the significance of service quality and patient experience while inspecting three major healthcare facilities.

During his tour, which was part of his visit to Barak Valley, Singhal evaluated the infrastructure and medical services at Silchar Civil Hospital, Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), and the Silchar Cancer Centre. He engaged with patients to gain insights into their experiences and the challenges they encounter.

“Our focus should be on two key areas: service quality and patient experience. It is essential that patients leave the hospital with a positive impression,” the minister stated, underlining the necessity for public healthcare to be more attuned to patient requirements.

At Silchar Civil Hospital, he examined the current facilities and monitored the progress of two significant projects: a Critical Care Unit and a Mother and Child Care Unit.

Recognizing the hospital's high patient volume, Singhal mentioned that he would review the construction efforts by the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure timely project completion. He indicated that discussions with PWD officials would aim to accelerate the ongoing projects.

“Given the substantial number of patients, the new facilities are anticipated to fill some existing gaps. We are committed to ensuring that the work is completed promptly, and we will monitor the progress with the PWD to speed up the process,” he remarked.

At SMCH, the minister assessed the operations of various departments, the quality of medical services, and the overall management of the institution.

He also visited the Mother and Child Care Centre to evaluate the infrastructure and services available for maternal and pediatric care.

At the Silchar Cancer Centre, managed by the Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Singhal toured different departments and reviewed the treatment options available for cancer patients. He took the time to speak with patients receiving treatment to learn about their progress and experiences.

Singhal reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure throughout the state while striving to make public hospitals more efficient and focused on patient needs.
