Assam's Decision on NEET Protest Cases

Guwahati, July 28 - The Assam government has announced its decision to withdraw all cases filed against individuals involved in protests against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question paper leak. This information was disclosed in an official notification.

According to the notification released late Monday night, all individuals who were arrested or detained will be released immediately, and no legal action will be taken against anyone who participated in the protests. The notification, signed by Ajay Tiwari, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home and Political Department, stated that this decision was made after considering all aspects of the situation and recognizing the need for accountability in the examination and higher education system, along with necessary institutional reforms.

The notification also mentioned that the process of withdrawing all cases in accordance with legal provisions will commence immediately. Regarding the arrests and detentions, it stated that a review of the cases will be conducted, and the release process for the concerned individuals will begin promptly. Furthermore, no police authority in the state will initiate any adverse legal action against those involved in the protests.

On July 23, significant protests took place in Guwahati concerning the NEET question paper leak, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and expressed solidarity with social activist Sonam Wangchuk and students advocating for educational reforms.
