Assam Government to Launch Fourth Phase of Mission Basundhara Soon
Mission Basundhara Expansion Announced
Guwahati, Feb 27: On Friday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam government is preparing to initiate the fourth phase of Mission Basundhara, aimed at including all beneficiaries who were previously overlooked. He also mentioned that the seat-sharing arrangement within the NDA in Assam is expected to be finalized by March 10.
During a land patta distribution event under Mission Basundhara 3 in Dhemaji, Sarma highlighted the program's role in revolutionizing land governance and securing legal rights for numerous families throughout the state.
“The third phase of Mission Basundhara has commenced in Dhemaji, where land pattas are being allocated to various institutions, including religious organizations, schools, colleges, and music schools. Additionally, residents of non-cadastral villages are being integrated into cadastral villages to facilitate their access to land rights,” Sarma explained.
He noted that approximately two lakh individuals have benefited from the third phase of this initiative.
“In total, nearly two lakh people have received land pattas under Mission Basundhara 3. When combined with the first two phases, the government has granted land pattas to around 10 lakh families. This initiative stands out as one of the most impactful welfare programs by the Assam government,” he stated.
The Chief Minister further revealed plans for the upcoming phase of the initiative.
“We will soon launch Mission Basundhara 4 to ensure that all remaining families receive land pattas. Our objective is to guarantee land rights and security for every eligible family in the state,” he added.
On the topic of political developments, Sarma mentioned that discussions regarding seat-sharing within the NDA are advancing.
“Negotiations with the Bodoland People’s Front are nearly complete. We are also in advanced discussions with the Rabha Joutho Sangram Samiti, and we anticipate finalizing arrangements with the Asom Gana Parishad by March 10,” he noted.
He emphasized that the alliance will gather political insights from grassroots levels before finalizing candidates.
“We will evaluate our strengths in various constituencies and gather feedback from the ground prior to finalizing the candidate list,” Sarma remarked.
Regarding the potential for friendly contests, the Chief Minister suggested that alliance partners might adopt a flexible stance in certain constituencies.
“If the BJP and AGP can reach a consensus, it would be advantageous for all parties involved. However, in cases where neither party is willing to concede a seat, we may consider friendly contests. The AGP has a robust organization, and if some leaders do not secure tickets, they may feel disheartened. In such situations, we have indicated that if alliance partners struggle to persuade their members, the BJP will not view it negatively and may permit friendly contests,” he concluded.
