Assam Government Outlines Development Goals at District Commissioners' Conference

Jorhat, Sept 14: On the second day of the District Commissioners’ Conference held in Jorhat, the Assam government focused on its development strategies for the upcoming six months to a year, alongside necessary policy adjustments and administrative reforms across various sectors.

Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika, who was present at the conference with other Cabinet members and senior officials, indicated that discussions spanned nearly all departments, emphasizing the development projects the state plans to undertake soon.

“We have engaged in discussions covering nearly every department, focusing on policy and reform. The initiatives Assam will prioritize in the next six months to a year, particularly regarding development, were thoroughly examined,” Hazarika informed reporters in Jorhat.

The minister noted that the conference is anticipated to extend until approximately 10 pm on Monday.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media that the second day would concentrate on district development, infrastructure, public service delivery, and law enforcement, in addition to ensuring effective execution of both Central and state government initiatives.

Sarma also mentioned that the discussions would aim to enhance the administration's responsiveness and focus on the needs of the people.

Attendees of the conference include Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota and ministers such as Ajanta Neog, Biswajit Daimary, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Keshab Mahanta, Atul Bora, and Hazarika, along with senior officials and bureaucrats from various departments.

Notably, the District Commissioners from Nagaon and Morigaon are absent due to their involvement in preparations for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, while DCs from all other districts are present.

This conference marks the first gathering of District Commissioners for the Assam government in its new term following the 2026 Assembly elections.

Currently, Sarma is on a three-day visit to Jorhat, where he is assessing development and administrative priorities.

The ongoing conference aims to establish a framework for the district-level execution of the government’s development agenda, discussing policy priorities and administrative reforms alongside infrastructure, public services, and scheme implementation.
