Assam Government Launches Comprehensive Survey for Flood Relief

Statewide Survey Initiated for Flood-Affected Families

Guwahati, Aug 9: On Sunday, the Assam government commenced a comprehensive survey across the state to evaluate the impact of recent floods on households. This initiative aims to assess damages and determine the compensation and rehabilitation support for affected families. Depending on the level of destruction, eligible households could receive financial assistance ranging from Rs 1.78 lakh to over Rs 3.5 lakh.

According to the compensation guidelines, families whose homes have been entirely destroyed will be entitled to Rs 1.2 lakh under the 'fully damaged' category. This amount is also applicable to homes classified as 'severely damaged,' where vital belongings and documents have suffered significant harm.

In addition to housing compensation, there will be provisions for agricultural and livestock losses. Families can claim Rs 37,500 for each lost cattle, Rs 5,000 for damaged handlooms, and Rs 4,000 for each goat, sheep, or pig. Compensation will also cover losses of up to 100 ducks or chickens.

Minister Keshab Mahanta visited flood-affected areas in Amguri, Sivasagar, to oversee the door-to-door survey and engage with impacted residents. He emphasized the importance of thorough assessments, stating, “We are visiting every household to ensure that the evaluation is conducted accurately. After the survey, the government will provide necessary support for rehabilitation, enabling families to rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods.”

Minister Bimal Bora highlighted that the survey's objective is to guarantee that every eligible family receives the maximum assistance permitted by government regulations. He noted, “The rehabilitation assessment has commenced today following the Chief Minister’s directive for a detailed evaluation of losses. Officials have been instructed to ensure that every affected family receives the assistance they are entitled to under government rules.”

Bora further explained that once all eligible components are accounted for, a flood-affected household could receive a minimum of approximately Rs 1.78 lakh, while families facing extensive damage across multiple categories could receive upwards of Rs 3.5 lakh.

The survey is set to continue until August 30. The government has urged affected residents to cooperate with the survey teams to ensure that all losses are accurately documented, facilitating timely compensation processing.
