Assam Government Assures Residents of Sufficient Fuel Supply Amid Panic Buying
Government Reassures Public on Fuel Availability
Guwahati, Mar 26: In response to growing anxiety among citizens regarding a supposed fuel shortage and a lockdown-like atmosphere, officials on Thursday clarified that there is an ample supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG throughout Assam.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the situation, urging residents to refrain from panic buying and confirming that there is no crisis in fuel supply within the state.
“Assam has enough petrol, diesel, and LPG available, and there is no need for alarm. I encourage everyone to avoid unnecessary purchases,” Sarma stated.
He emphasized that if there were any issues, the government would have communicated them, highlighting that even during a national multi-party meeting, the Centre assured that fuel supplies are stable across the country.
“People should not waste money on excessive purchases. Only buy what you need,” he advised.
Previously, the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan, Swapneel Paul, released a public notice on Wednesday confirming that there is a sufficient supply of petrol and diesel in the district, with no signs of a shortage.
“Current field reports indicate that both petrol and diesel stocks in Kamrup Metropolitan district are adequate. There is no shortage, nor is any anticipated,” the notice stated, urging residents to avoid panic buying.
The administration also encouraged citizens to report any issues regarding fuel availability through the emergency helpline number 1077.
This reassurance came as long lines formed at petrol stations across Guwahati, driven by rumors of a fuel shortage, prompting many to rush to fill their tanks.
Officials warned that continued panic buying could disrupt supply chains if not controlled.
Authorities reiterated that supply lines are functioning normally and called for calm, cautioning against the spread of false information.
