Guwahati, June 8: On Sunday, the Assam government designated 16 Cabinet ministers to oversee 35 districts, assigning them the task of ensuring administrative coordination, monitoring development projects, and maintaining strong connections with district administrations.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the assignments via a social media update, emphasizing the urgency of these roles due to the rising flood risks in various regions of the state.

He expressed his confidence in the ministers, stating, "I believe that the Hon'ble Ministers will collaborate effectively with district administrations to enhance our progress and prosperity journey."

In this new arrangement, Rameswar Teli will manage Tinsukia and Jorhat; Atul Bora is responsible for Kamrup (Metro) and Dhemaji; Charan Boro will oversee Kokrajhar, Baksa, and Chirang; Ajanta Neog is assigned to Morigaon and Kamrup; Ashwini Ray Sarkar will handle Bongaigaon and Barpeta; and Ashok Singhal is tasked with Darrang and Dhubri.

Additionally, Bimal Bora will supervise Sivasagar and Charaideo; Biswajit Daimary is in charge of Nalbari and Sonitpur; Jayanta Malla Baruah will oversee Tamulpur and Goalpara; Kaushik Rai is assigned to Sribhumi and Hailakandi; Keshab Mahanta will manage South Salmara-Mankachar and Lakhimpur; and Krishnendu Paul will supervise Dima Hasao and Cachar.

Nilamoni Sen Deka has been given Bajali and Udalguri; Pijush Hazarika will oversee Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, and West Karbi Anglong; Ranoj Pegu is assigned to Biswanath and Golaghat; while Susanta Borgohain will manage Majuli and Dibrugarh.

This announcement followed Sarma's remarks to the media after the induction of new ministers, where he indicated that the allocation of guardian minister roles would be prioritized due to the imminent flood challenges faced by several districts.

"While full portfolio assignments will be delayed, we will ensure that guardian minister roles are filled so that ministers can visit various districts, assess flood-related issues, and guarantee that district administrations are proactive and responsive in addressing the situation," Sarma stated on Saturday.

The recent appointments come as Assam approaches the monsoon season, a time when many districts are prone to flooding and necessitate effective coordination between the government and local administrations.
