Guwahati, June 25: As the Assam government prepares for its inaugural budget on July 6, Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah announced on Thursday that the administration is focused on maximizing the effectiveness of public spending by striving for nearly complete utilization of budget allocations.
During a pre-Budget consultation event organized by the BJP, Mallabaruah highlighted that approximately 90% of the current fiscal year's budget has already been utilized, showcasing the government's enhanced capacity for implementation.
He stated, "Our goal is to approach nearly 100% utilization of sanctioned funds, ensuring that every rupee allocated results in tangible development on the ground," emphasizing the administration's commitment to efficient spending and sound financial management.
The Finance Minister also noted that the forthcoming Budget has been crafted through comprehensive discussions with stakeholders, incorporating feedback from various community segments.
He mentioned that the Budget will continue to prioritize investments in critical areas such as infrastructure, job creation, agriculture, education, healthcare, and social welfare, while also bolstering Assam's long-term economic growth.
Mallabaruah reiterated the government's commitment to transparency and accountability in public spending, instructing departments to ensure timely project execution and effective use of allocated resources.
His comments followed a lengthy nine-hour review meeting led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan, where 13 key departments discussed sectoral priorities and resource allocation in preparation for the Budget.

In a social media post, Sarma remarked, "Before the #AssamBudget, today in a marathon 9-hour meeting, we reviewed the functioning of 13 departments of our government. We discussed how all these departments can contribute even more towards public service. We have kept in mind the hopes and aspirations of every section of society."
This thorough review is part of the government's initiative to create what it describes as a growth-oriented, inclusive, and future-ready Budget, focusing on enhancing public service delivery, reinforcing flagship programs, and maintaining fiscal discipline.
The Assam Legislative Assembly's Budget Session is set to begin on July 6, with the state Budget presentation scheduled for July 10.
This will mark the first Budget of the newly elected government following the recent Assembly elections and is anticipated to outline the state's developmental priorities for the upcoming year.
