Rising Death Toll Amidst Severe Flooding in Assam

Guwahati, August 3 - The death toll in Assam due to flooding has tragically risen to 87, following the loss of two more lives. An official bulletin released on Monday reported that over 128,000 individuals remain affected across seven districts.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) indicated that the fatalities occurred in the severely impacted Sivasagar district. Currently, 380 villages and approximately 14,230.148 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged in the flood-affected districts of Charadeiv, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Bishwanath, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur.

This year, the floods in Assam have resulted in a total of 87 deaths. Among the 128,071 affected individuals, 55,200 are from Sivasagar, 34,050 from Charadeiv, and 20,209 from Jorhat district.

As of Sunday, more than 135,000 people were reported to be affected across five districts. The administration is currently managing 38 relief camps, providing shelter to 11,066 displaced individuals, along with operating 17 relief distribution centers.
