Severe Flooding Continues in Assam

Guwahati, August 9 - The flood situation in Assam remains dire, with the death toll rising to 100 following the loss of two more lives on Sunday. This information was released in an official bulletin. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that one person drowned in each of the Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts over the past 24 hours.

According to ASDMA, more than 137,500 individuals are currently affected across several districts, including Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, and Sivasagar. Golaghat is the worst-hit district, with approximately 70,000 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar with around 40,000 and Jorhat with over 16,000 residents affected.

There has been a slight improvement in the situation compared to Saturday, when about 150,000 people were reported to be affected across eight districts. ASDMA noted that the administration has established 125 relief camps and distribution centers in six districts, currently sheltering 49,061 displaced individuals.
