Assam Floods: Casualties Rise as Relief Efforts Continue Amid Improved Conditions

Current Flood Situation in Assam

Guwahati: The flood crisis in Assam showed signs of improvement on Wednesday, with the number of individuals affected dropping to 87,000 across four districts. However, the death toll has risen to 103 following the report of two additional fatalities, according to an official update.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) released a bulletin this evening detailing that two individuals lost their lives due to drowning in the floodwaters over the past 24 hours.

The fatalities occurred in Sivasagar and Karbi Anglong districts, with one person drowning in each area.

This brings the total death count for this year's floods to 103.

The ASDMA's daily report indicated that over 86,800 residents remain affected in Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Sivasagar districts.

Golaghat has been the hardest hit, with more than 42,000 individuals impacted, followed by Nagaon with 20,000 and Sivasagar with 15,000.

The situation has improved since Tuesday, when nearly 113,000 people were reported affected across the four districts.

Currently, the administration is managing 79 relief camps and distribution centers across five districts, providing assistance to 13,011 individuals.

In the last 24 hours, the authority has distributed 96.55 quintals of rice, 18.26 quintals of dal, 5.41 quintals of salt, and 204.81 liters of mustard oil to the flood-affected population.

A total of 433 villages remain submerged, and approximately 10,884.27 hectares of agricultural land have suffered damage due to the floods.

Infrastructure such as embankments, roads, and bridges has also been compromised in various districts.

The Dhansiri River is currently flowing above the danger mark at Numaligarh.

Due to the extensive flooding, around 32,944 domestic animals and poultry have been impacted throughout the state.
