Severe Flooding in Assam

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam has worsened as of Friday, with over 212,000 individuals affected across eight districts, while the total number of fatalities linked to this year's floods has reached 80, according to officials.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that 212,441 residents are currently impacted by flooding in districts including Golaghat, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Charaideo, Kamrup (Metro), Jorhat, Dhemaji, and Nagaon.

This disaster has inundated 437 villages across 21 revenue circles, with floodwaters damaging approximately 17,198.09 hectares of agricultural land.

ASDMA confirmed that two additional fatalities occurred in Sivasagar district within the last 24 hours, bringing the total flood-related deaths in the state this season to 80.

Relief and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas, with 21 relief camps established to accommodate displaced families. District administrations are supplying food, clean water, and other essential items to those in need.

Urban flooding continues to impact parts of the Kamrup Metropolitan district, particularly in the Padumbari and Tetelia-Boragaon Service Lane areas, which are experiencing significant waterlogging.

In a public advisory issued Thursday night, ASDMA warned residents to avoid the Dhansiri (South) River due to rising water levels at Numaligarh in Golaghat district.

"Citizens are advised to keep a safe distance from the Dhansiri (South) River as its water level continues to rise," the authority stated.

Officials are closely monitoring the flood situation, especially in vulnerable regions, as water levels in various rivers remain elevated. Residents in low-lying and riverbank areas are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to advisories from district administrations and disaster management agencies.
