Assam Election Polls Indicate Strong NDA Performance Under Himanta Biswa Sarma

A recent opinion poll by Matriz indicates that the NDA, led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, is likely to retain power in Assam with an increased majority. The BJP-led coalition is projected to win between 92 and 102 seats, while Congress and its allies may secure only 22 to 32 seats. The poll suggests that the NDA could receive around 46% of the votes, compared to Congress's 36%. The elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are set for April 9, with results expected on May 4, alongside elections in other states.
 

NDA Expected to Retain Power in Assam

According to a recent opinion poll conducted by Matriz, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is projected to maintain its power in Assam, potentially securing an even larger majority this time. The data suggests that the NDA coalition, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and Bodoland People's Front (BPF), could win between 92 and 102 seats.


 


In contrast, the Congress party and its allies are expected to secure between 22 and 32 seats. Congress has formed an alliance with the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Raijor Dal, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC), and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, collectively known as the Assam Sonmilito Morcha (ASM). According to the Matriz poll data, other parties may also gain approximately four to seven seats.


 


The projections indicate that the NDA could receive around 46% of the votes, while the Congress-led coalition might garner about 36%. Other parties are estimated to receive roughly 18% of the votes. Regional analysis from the Matriz opinion poll suggests that in the Barak Valley, the NDA could win 10-12 seats, Congress 2-4 seats, and other parties 1-2 seats. In Northern and Central Assam, the NDA is expected to secure 27-29 seats, Congress 4-6 seats, and other parties 0-1 seat. In Lower Assam, the NDA may achieve 22-24 seats, Congress 7-9 seats, and other parties 2-5 seats.


 


According to the Matriz opinion poll, in Bodoland, the NDA is projected to win 10-12 seats, Congress 0-2 seats, and other parties 2-4 seats. In Upper Assam, the NDA is expected to secure 21-23 seats, while Congress may achieve 5-7 seats. The elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled for April 9, with results to be announced on May 4, coinciding with elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
