Comprehensive Security Review in Chirang

Chirang, Aug 24: On Sunday, Harmeet Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, conducted an in-depth assessment of the law-and-order situation in Chirang in preparation for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections scheduled for September.

Upon his arrival at the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office in Chirang district, Singh was welcomed by local police officials. He subsequently convened a detailed meeting with senior officers in Kajalgaon to evaluate policing strategies, crime trends, and security protocols necessary for a seamless electoral process across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), which includes Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri.

"My visit to Chirang is aimed at conducting a thorough security assessment. We have discussed various aspects of policing, including law enforcement, crime prevention, and election security measures. As the BTC elections draw near, our goal is to ensure that they are conducted freely, fairly, and without incidents," Singh stated.

The DGP emphasized that the Assam Police is dedicated to safeguarding voters' safety.

"It is our duty to ensure that citizens do not encounter any issues during the election. Should any incidents occur, we will respond according to the law. Up to this point, there have been no significant disturbances, and our police force is committed to preventing any untoward events," Singh assured.

Security agencies are acutely aware of the region's history of ethnic strife and sporadic violence during past elections. The DGP's review not only addressed law-and-order issues but also aimed at enhancing intelligence operations, monitoring sensitive areas, and collaborating with central security forces to uphold peace during the voting process.

District officials provided the DGP with updates on security deployment strategies, which include patrolling in at-risk areas, implementing confidence-building measures in sensitive villages, and ensuring sufficient protection for polling stations. The importance of district-level price monitoring and law-and-order committees was also underscored during the preparedness review.

"The BTC elections hold significant importance for the residents of this region, and we are committed to conducting them in a free, fair, and peaceful manner," Singh concluded.
