Concerns Over Exit Poll Integrity

Guwahati: On Saturday, Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Congress, accused the BJP of manipulating exit polls to sow confusion among voters.

During a press conference following a gathering of Opposition alliance leaders, Gogoi expressed confidence that the BJP's attempts to mislead the electorate would ultimately fail.

"The Opposition and the citizens of Assam are not falling for the exit polls' deception, and this will be clear on counting day, May 4," he stated.

He emphasized that there exists a "silent vote" and an "undercurrent" favoring the Opposition, which he believes exit polls have overlooked.

Gogoi pointed out that many voters, particularly women, have cast their ballots based on pressing issues such as inflation and governance.

He further alleged that the BJP has attempted to create irregularities in the strongrooms, but their candidates and vigilant citizens have alerted the authorities multiple times to thwart such actions.

"People from all walks of life in Assam are yearning for a change in government. They have voted for this on April 9, and the results will be revealed on May 4," he added.

The Congress candidate from Jorhat mentioned that Opposition leaders convened to strategize for the counting process and to ensure vigilance on that day.

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar echoed Gogoi's sentiments, labeling the exit polls as misleading and asserting that their internal survey indicates the Opposition will take power after May 4.

He accused the BJP of trying to disrupt the counting process but assured that they are ready to respond legally in both Delhi and Guwahati.

"We are committed to safeguarding our candidates and ensuring that state resources are not misused for any underhanded tactics," he remarked.

Shivakumar also claimed that the BJP has approached several Opposition candidates post-election, questioning their motives if they were truly confident of winning.

"This indicates their lack of confidence, while the people of Assam are resolute in their desire for a government change," he concluded.

He reiterated his belief that the exit polls have been manipulated by the BJP.

The meeting included leaders from various parties, such as Congress, Raijor Dal's Akhil Gogoi, Assam Jatiya Parishad's Lurinjyoti Gogoi, and representatives from the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC), CPI(M), CPI, and CPI(ML).

Notable attendees included AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and the party's election observer Bandhu Tirkey.
