Call for Surrender

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, has stated that Congress leader Pawan Khera should surrender to the law and appear in Guwahati. This statement comes after the Supreme Court of India denied Khera's request to extend his transit bail related to allegations involving the Chief Minister's wife.

Speaking to ANI on April 17 in North Dinajpur, Sarma expressed, "I believe Pawan Khera should surrender to the law. He should come to Guwahati and turn himself in."

Supreme Court Decision

Earlier that day, the Supreme Court dismissed Khera's petition seeking an extension of his transit bail granted by the Telangana High Court until Tuesday. This extension was requested to allow Khera to appeal in an Assam court regarding false allegations against Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of the Chief Minister.

The Assam police had challenged the Telangana High Court's decision in the Supreme Court, which had granted Khera a week's anticipatory bail under certain conditions starting from April 10. According to the bail order, Khera was required to approach the competent court in Assam to obtain the necessary legal relief.

Allegations and Denials

Khera has alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma possesses three passports—Indian, UAE, and Egyptian—and owns undisclosed luxurious properties in Dubai, along with a company in Wyoming, USA. The Sarma family has vehemently denied these claims, labeling them as "AI-generated fabricated stories" circulated by Pakistani social media groups.
