Assam CM Urges Justice for Tripura Student Following Racial Abuse Incident
Call for Justice in Racial Abuse Case
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, has reached out to his counterpart in Uttarakhand, urging for the prosecution of those responsible for the alleged racial abuse of Anjal Chakma, a student from Tripura. This incident tragically led to Chakma's death.
The 24-year-old from Nandan Nagar in West Tripura was subjected to racial slurs by a group in Dehradun on December 9. When he protested against the abuse, he was attacked, resulting in his hospitalization. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on December 26.
In a post on social media platform 'X', Sarma expressed his condolences to Chakma's family, stating, "The tragic death of Anjal Chakma due to racial abuse in Dehradun is heartbreaking and unacceptable." He further urged Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami to ensure strict action against the perpetrators to uphold justice.
