Assam CM Thanks Dharmendra Pradhan for Education Reforms

Guwahati, July 25: On Saturday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his sincere appreciation to former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following his resignation submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sarma commended Pradhan for his significant contributions to educational reforms and his unwavering support for Assam.
In a comprehensive post on social media, Sarma characterized Pradhan as a dedicated leader who has worked diligently to revive the cultural essence of Bharat and to reform the education system away from colonial influences.
“Words cannot fully express my gratitude for Shri @dpradhanbjp ji. His relentless efforts as Union Education Minister to restore Bharat's civilizational spirit and to reform our education system are commendable. His steadfast dedication to the National Education Policy, despite facing political hurdles, will be remembered as a major contribution to nation-building,” Sarma stated.
The Chief Minister also recognized Pradhan's personal support for Assam, noting that his encouragement and goodwill have always been invaluable.
“On a personal level, I have always appreciated his genuine concern for Assam. He has consistently stood by us whenever we needed his assistance,” Sarma remarked.
Reflecting on their recent encounter during the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati, Sarma highlighted that the establishment of this institution is a testament to Pradhan's vision for enhancing quality higher education throughout the nation.
“That proud moment was made possible due to his vision and commitment to ensuring quality higher education reaches every corner of the country. The people of Assam will forever be thankful for that,” he added.
In concluding his message, Sarma expressed his gratitude for Pradhan's service, stating, “As he steps down, I sincerely thank him for his dedication, humility, and selfless service to Bharat Mata. I wish him good health, happiness, and strength in the future. I am confident that wherever he goes, he will continue to serve our nation with the same dedication.”
In response to this development, Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and APCC president, labeled Pradhan's resignation as a “victory of democracy.”
“Dharmendra Pradhan has been forced to resign. This signifies a triumph for democracy and the republic. We witnessed the injustices faced by the youth, including police brutality,” Gogoi stated.
He accused authorities of attempting to suppress the protests and claimed that they had tried to intimidate the students who were demonstrating. “Regardless of who is in power, as long as democratic principles endure in India and Assam, and people continue to voice their concerns against injustice, the populace will ultimately prevail,” he asserted.
Pradhan's resignation occurred amidst increasing scrutiny over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak scandal and allegations regarding irregularities in the CBSE's marking process.
Following the announcement, students and members of the CJP, who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since June 20, celebrated the news. The demonstrators have been calling for accountability regarding the alleged examination irregularities and advocating for broader reforms in public examination processes.
