Chief Minister Commends Election Commission's Efforts
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, has expressed his appreciation for the role played by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process, highlighting its significance in facilitating smooth electoral operations. In a post on X, Sarma noted that the Election Commission of India efficiently managed the SIR process, contributing to peaceful and orderly elections.
Sarma remarked that the Election Commission has performed excellently concerning the SIR, ensuring that elections are conducted in a peaceful and organized manner. He further stated that the contributions of the Chief Election Commissioner will always be remembered by the nation and advocated for similar reforms in Assam. When asked if Gyanesh deserves a Padma award for his efforts, Himanta suggested that he should be honored with the Bharat Ratna, emphasizing that the recognition he deserves is immense.
Additionally, Sarma predicted that the BJP would secure 200 out of 294 seats in Bengal.
Himanta also mentioned that he would request the Chief Election Commissioner to conduct the SIR in Assam as well. In response, Congress leader Manish Tewari criticized Sarma, sarcastically stating that thankfully he did not claim they would win elections on Saturn. Tewari asserted that the reality is there is no independent Election Commission, claiming it operates as a department of the BJP-NDA government.
