Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma at World Economic Forum: Showcasing Investment Opportunities

Assam's Participation at the World Economic Forum


Guwahati, Jan 20: On Tuesday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the inauguration of the India Pavilion at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, alongside senior Union ministers and chief ministers from ten different states.


In a social media update, Sarma highlighted that the India Pavilion aims to present the nation's investment prospects to an international audience.


He expressed, “I joined my esteemed colleagues from Team Bharat for the launch of the India Pavilion @wef. This platform will showcase the best opportunities India has to offer to the global community.”


The Chief Minister noted that Assam has greatly benefited from the Narendra Modi administration's Act East policy and other initiatives, positioning it as the fastest-growing state economy in India.


Sarma emphasized that it is time for Assam to establish itself as a key investment hub.


"This is my first visit, and I believe we should have come much sooner," he remarked, wishing success to other states in their investment pursuits.


Later in the day, Sarma is set to meet with global leaders and major enterprises to enhance partnerships and elevate Assam's international profile.


Before engaging with global semiconductor leaders at the WEF, the Chief Minister met with Tata Group chairman N. Chandrasekaran.


Describing the meeting as fruitful, Sarma mentioned that the Tata Group is pivotal in developing Assam's semiconductor ecosystem, and the state is eager to collaborate with international players in this sector.


Having arrived in Switzerland on Monday for the five-day WEF Annual Meeting, Sarma views this as a significant step in Assam's global outreach.


Following his arrival, he engaged in discussions with various national and international leaders, including Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.


During the WEF Annual Meeting, Sarma plans to present Assam's governance reforms, industrial growth strategies, and technology-driven development initiatives to global industrialists, economists, multinational corporations, and heads of international financial institutions like the World Bank, IMF, and WTO.
