New Delhi, June 1: On the third day of his four-day trip to New Delhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to discuss various healthcare initiatives aimed at bolstering the state's medical infrastructure.

After their discussion, Sarma expressed gratitude towards Nadda for his contributions to strengthening the BJP's presence in Assam and elaborated on the state government's ambitious health sector plans.

In a social media update, the Chief Minister stated, "During my meeting in Delhi, I expressed my appreciation for his support and sought his advice on implementing our ambitious health schemes, which include establishing medical colleges, introducing proton beam therapy, and increasing the number of doctors to position Assam as a leading destination for medical tourism."

This meeting aligns with Assam's extensive healthcare expansion initiative, which focuses on enhancing medical education, introducing specialized treatment options, and improving healthcare access throughout the state.

The state's healthcare strategy aims to establish a medical college in every district by 2030, with the long-term goal of improving healthcare delivery and cultivating a larger pool of medical professionals in Assam.

A significant aspect of this strategy is the planned introduction of proton beam therapy, a cutting-edge cancer treatment technology currently available at only a few centers in India.

Later that day, the Chief Minister also met with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan to discuss Assam's developmental progress.

This meeting is part of the Assam government's broader efforts to boost economic growth, enhance infrastructure, and implement social sector reforms as part of its long-term development strategy.

Tuesday will conclude the Chief Minister's visit to the national capital, during which he has engaged in multiple discussions with senior Union ministers and constitutional authorities.
