Assam Chief Minister Responds to Bangladesh's Claims

Guwahati, Dec 16: In response to recent statements from Bangladesh regarding the potential separation of India's Northeast and its integration into Bangladesh, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma labeled such ideas as irresponsible and disconnected from reality.

During an event in Lumding, Sarma remarked, “For over a year, there have been discussions in Bangladesh about detaching the Northeast from India and merging it with their nation. However, India is currently a rising economy, a nuclear power, and ranks as the fourth-largest economy globally. How can Bangladesh even entertain such thoughts?”

The Chief Minister emphasized that such narratives represent flawed thinking and cautioned that India should not remain passive in the face of these comments.

“We must not foster this kind of mentality. The citizens of Bangladesh need to realize that India will not tolerate such behavior,” he stated.

Sarma reaffirmed that the Northeast is a vital part of India and dismissed any notions of territorial division as politically charged rhetoric lacking any substantial foundation.

On December 15, Hasnat Abdullah, a prominent member of Bangladesh's newly established National Citizen Party (NCP), issued a provocative warning to India, asserting that Dhaka could “isolate” India's northeastern states if New Delhi sought to destabilize Bangladesh.
