Assam CM Confirms Unity in NDA Amid Seat-Sharing Speculations
Clarifying Seat-Sharing Dynamics
Guwahati, Dec 28: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has put an end to rumors regarding seat-sharing discussions within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Assam. On Sunday, he emphasized that there is no discord between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
Sarma reaffirmed the strong partnership between the two parties, stating, “There is no issue regarding seat-sharing between the AGP and the BJP. Our collaboration is solid and built on mutual respect.”
He clarified that there are no formal discussions planned concerning seat-sharing during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Assam on December 29.
While Shah is set to meet with senior AGP leaders in Borduwa and at Swahid Smarak, Sarma insisted that these encounters should not be viewed as official negotiations for seat-sharing.
“This time, there are no political discussions scheduled. The Home Minister will meet Keshab Mahanta in Borduwa and Atul Bora at Swahid Smarak, but these meetings are not for official negotiations,” Sarma explained, aiming to quell any rumors of high-level talks.
The Chief Minister further noted that the involvement of the Union Home Minister would only be necessary if the alliance fails to reach an agreement.
“I believe that discussions with the Home Minister will only occur if there is a lack of consensus among the parties. If we can reach an understanding, discussions will remain internal,” he added.
Regarding the seat-sharing process, Sarma mentioned that the BJP operates within a defined internal framework, with negotiations limited to a select group of leaders.
“When it comes to seat discussions, only Dilip Saikia and I will engage in talks. The BJP’s structure is such that not everyone is involved. It will solely be Saikia and myself discussing seat-sharing,” he concluded.
