Political Landscape in Assam

On Monday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, asserted that the Congress party has been completely eliminated from the state's political scene. He reiterated allegations of connections to Pakistan concerning Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera, which stem from claims related to his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. During a press conference, Sarma stated that the Congress party's influence in Assam has vanished, citing the recent betting market trends as evidence. He noted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seats increased from 94 to 99 overnight, indicating a shift in public sentiment. Sarma expressed confidence that his upcoming rally would attract even more attendees.

Intensifying his criticism, the Chief Minister questioned the alleged foreign ties of Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pawan Khera. He asked why they sought assistance from a Pakistani social media group, emphasizing that they should clarify their connections with Pakistan. Sarma has been vocal about his concerns that Pakistan could influence elections, a warning he has been issuing since July.

Referencing prior information, Sarma claimed he had foreseen the unfolding events. He mentioned sending a message to a journalist in Assam on March 27, indicating that something significant was about to happen. He stated that it would be up to the police to decide whether to arrest Pawan Khera, labeling the situation as a crime against the nation. He hinted at potential legal action against Congress leaders, revealing that a complaint had already been filed with the Indian government regarding Khera and others.

Previously, Sarma had accused Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Gaurav Gogoi of using documents related to the passport controversy involving his wife that he claimed were photoshopped and sourced from a Pakistani social media group. He further alleged that Congress fabricated a narrative using these documents and dismissed claims about foreign companies, stating that anyone could register a company for just $199.
