Assam CM Aims to Attract Congress Leaders to BJP for State's Progress

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his desire to attract valuable leaders from the Congress party into the BJP to secure a brighter future for Assam. Following the recent defection of Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi, Sarma emphasized the BJP's commitment to integrating capable leaders and enhancing governance in the state. He believes that the ongoing outreach efforts, guided by Home Minister Amit Shah, will encourage more Congress leaders to join the BJP, as he asserts that no self-respecting individual can remain with the Congress given its current ideology. Sarma's remarks highlight the BJP's strategy to strengthen its position in Assam amidst political transitions.

Chief Minister's Vision for Assam

On March 18, in New Delhi, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, criticized the Congress party, expressing his intention to welcome all valuable leaders from Congress into the BJP to enhance the state's future.

"Our aim is to illuminate the paths of both the BJP and Assam. Hence, I aspire to gradually integrate all Congress leaders who are assets rather than liabilities into our party," Sarma stated.

His comments followed the recent switch of Congress Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi to the BJP.

In response to Congress's claim that the BJP is recruiting its leaders due to a shortage of prominent figures, Sarma asserted that the BJP began this trend of migration back in 2016.

"Let Congress voice its opinions. Our mission is to incorporate all commendable Congress leaders into the BJP. We initiated this in 2016 and have seen a 99% success rate," he remarked.

When questioned about the influx of opposition leaders into the BJP in Assam, Sarma attributed it to the party's effective governance in the state.

"Assam is a region where we must engage in a significant struggle for our existence. Following the Census, our efforts to protect the Assamese community will escalate," he added.

"I do not wish for any principled Assamese individual to find themselves on the opposing side. Therefore, we are intentionally conducting this outreach under the leadership of our Home Minister Amit Shah," the Chief Minister elaborated.

He further claimed that no "self-respecting individual" could remain affiliated with the Congress, especially in Assam, considering the current ideology it promotes.

"Recently, Bhupen Borah, the former president of Assam Congress, joined the BJP. I anticipate that more Congress leaders will follow suit in the near future," he concluded.
