Assam Chief Minister Resigns, Paving the Way for New Government Formation
Resignation of Assam's Chief Minister
On Wednesday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his resignation to Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, facilitating the formation of a new government. This step follows the NDA's victory in the assembly elections, marking the official beginning of the new government setup. During the meeting at the Raj Bhavan, several senior leaders, including Ranajoy Pegu and Manav Deka, accompanied Chief Minister Sarma.
Cabinet Resignation and Interim Administration
In a conversation with reporters, Chief Minister Sarma confirmed that the entire council of ministers has also resigned. He mentioned that the Governor has instructed the current government to continue functioning as a caretaker administration until the new government is established. When asked about the next Chief Minister, Sarma stated that the decision would be made by the BJP's central leadership. He revealed that party president Nitin Nabin has assigned senior leader JP Nadda the role of observer, who will make the final call.
Future Plans for the New Cabinet
Sarma indicated that the new council of ministers would be formed after May 11. However, he expressed uncertainty regarding whether the swearing-in ceremony would take place on May 12. After leaving the Raj Bhavan, the caretaker Chief Minister will head directly to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhavan for a meeting with the newly elected BJP legislators.
