Pushback of Illegal Immigrants

Guwahati, April 26: On Sunday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported that 20 foreign nationals were detained in the state and subsequently sent back to Bangladesh.

In a statement shared on a social media platform, Sarma emphasized, "Rude individuals do not comprehend gentle communication... This saying resonates with us as we expel infiltrators from Assam who refuse to leave voluntarily. For example, these 20 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were PUSHED BACK last night," he remarked.

Details regarding the specific location of their apprehension or their nationality were not disclosed by him.

Sarma firmly stated, "Assam will continue to resist, and pushbacks will persist."

The districts of Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar in Assam share a 267.5 km long international border with Bangladesh.

There is an Integrated Check Post (ICP) located at Sutarkandi in Sribhumi. The northeastern region has three ICPs along the India-Bangladesh border, with the other two situated at Dawki in Meghalaya and Akhaura in Tripura.

Additionally, there is another ICP at Darranga in Assam along the India-Bhutan border.

Previously, the Assam Police stated that both the police force and the Border Security Force (BSF) would take all necessary measures to prevent any unauthorized entry from Bangladesh, especially following the political unrest in the neighboring country in 2024.

However, all Indian passport holders have been permitted to return from the troubled regions of Bangladesh through the designated entry point in Assam.
