Guwahati: In the ongoing Assam Assembly elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading in 10 out of the 126 constituencies, while the opposition Congress party is ahead in six, based on preliminary trends reported by various television channels.
The Election Commission has not yet released any official results.
Vote counting commenced at 8 AM, starting with postal ballots.
Results for other political parties are still pending.
The counting process is taking place at 40 different centers spread across all 35 districts, with most districts utilizing a single center to cover all constituencies.
In contrast, Nagaon district is conducting counting at three distinct centers, while Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, and Jorhat each have two centers.
The polling for all 126 assembly constituencies occurred in a single phase on April 9, achieving a remarkable voter turnout of 85.96% from over 2.5 crore registered voters.
