Allegations Surface

Ashleigh Gardner, the vice-captain of the Australian women's cricket team, has spoken out following allegations made by her estranged wife, Monica Wright. Wright publicly accused Gardner of infidelity during the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup held in India.

Public Accusations

The cheating claims emerged when Monica Wright took to Instagram, alleging that Gardner was involved with teammate Georgia Voll during the World Cup last year. This revelation has intensified scrutiny on Gardner's personal life.

Cricket Australia's Response

Monica Wright has criticized Cricket Australia for their lack of action regarding the allegations, suggesting that Gardner should have lost her vice-captaincy due to the situation. This has increased pressure on the cricket board to respond to the unfolding drama.

Gardner's Statement

Almost a month after the allegations were made, Ashleigh Gardner released a statement via Instagram Stories. She acknowledged that her relationship status needed to be clarified by Cricket Australia due to her leadership role. Gardner expressed gratitude for the support from the CA Board, stating, "While my separation from my wife is a personal matter, I understand my current relationship status needed to be addressed by Cricket Australia."

She added, "I look forward to playing a strong role as a leader and providing the best possible support for my teammates in the season to come."

Support from Cricket Australia

Despite the public scrutiny and calls for accountability, Cricket Australia has backed Gardner to remain as vice-captain. The organization confirmed that it was aware of her relationship and has supported her throughout the situation. CA CEO Todd Greenberg mentioned that new measures would be implemented to avoid any potential conflicts of interest involving Georgia Voll, including Gardner stepping back from selection discussions related to Voll.

Expressions of Regret

In her statement, Gardner expressed sorrow for the pain caused to Monica due to the public attention and their separation. She wished her estranged wife happiness and success in the future, while also requesting privacy regarding their personal matters.

"I am grateful for the time Monica and I shared and sorry for the pain this has caused. I wish her nothing but happiness and success in the future," Gardner stated. She concluded by asking for respect for the privacy of those involved.
