Ashish Yadav has made history by winning a silver medal in the men's javelin throw at the World Athletics U20 Championships, marking him as only the second Indian to achieve this feat after Neeraj Chopra.

Performance Overview

The 19-year-old athlete recorded a personal best throw of 74.09 meters, finishing behind South Africa's Jan-Hendrik Heymans, who took gold with a leading world U20 throw of 80.50 meters. Dominica's Addison James secured the bronze with a throw of 73.89 meters.

A Decade Since Chopra's Gold

This remarkable achievement comes ten years after Neeraj Chopra won gold at the World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, where he set a world U20 record of 86.48 meters.

Final Round Performance

In the final, Ashish started with a throw of 69.96 meters, followed by a foul on his second attempt. He then achieved his best throw of 74.09 meters on his third attempt, with subsequent throws measuring 72.31 meters, 70.62 meters, and 67.98 meters.

Path to the Final

Ashish entered the final with a personal best of 74.49 meters, achieved at the Indian Open Throws Competition earlier this year. He was joined in the final by fellow Indian T. Dharanidharan, who finished sixth with a best throw of 72.35 meters.

Indian Contingent Highlights

The Indian team consists of 36 athletes, including 23 men and 13 women. Mohammed Ashfaq also stood out by finishing eighth in the men's 400m final with a time of 46.20 seconds, having previously broken his own U20 national record in the heats with a time of 45.81 seconds.
