Three years after her impressive debut at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, where she secured three medals, Indian rifle shooter Ashi Chouksey is back in the same city. This time, she is representing India at the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun), aiming to build momentum for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games later this year.

Team Departure and Event Details

The Indian rifle and pistol team set off for Hangzhou on Friday night to participate in the ISSF World Cup 2026. Chouksey will compete in the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. Following her success at the 2023 Asian Games, where she earned two silver medals and an individual bronze, the 24-year-old is considered one of India's top medal contenders.

'High Expectations from Everyone'

During a Media Day event organized by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) prior to the team's departure, Chouksey expressed confidence in her preparations for the busy international season. "Preparations are going quite well. At the last Asian Games, I was the first to win three medals, so there are high expectations for this time as well. I am consistently practicing and focusing on improving every aspect of my shooting, including my mental health and physical fitness," she stated.

Importance of Yoga in Training

In addition to honing her shooting skills, Chouksey has incorporated yoga into her training regimen, which has significantly enhanced her concentration and breathing control—crucial elements in precision shooting. "I started practicing yoga about eight months ago, and it has been beneficial for my shooting. Proper breathing is essential for every shot, and yoga helps me maintain focus," she explained.

Support from the Indian Team

Chouksey also acknowledged the vital role of the support staff in keeping athletes physically prepared throughout a demanding competition schedule. "My physical trainers are dedicated to ensuring I am in peak condition for the Asian Games and other upcoming events. I appreciate the federation for providing us with excellent trainers and nutritionists who are committed to our success," she added.

Looking Ahead

With the confidence from her previous achievements in Hangzhou still fresh, Chouksey is eager to return to the podium. A strong performance at the ISSF World Cup would not only solidify her reputation as one of India's leading rifle shooters but also serve as a perfect launchpad for another medal-winning effort at the Asian Games in Japan.
