Jaipur, June 3: Asaram, who is currently serving a life sentence for a minor sexual assault case, has been readmitted to a hospital in Jodhpur. He was transferred from Central Jail to Arogyam Hospital under strict police surveillance for medical care and is being monitored closely.
Hospital officials confirmed, "Asaram was admitted to our facility on Tuesday night." A significant police presence was maintained during his transfer, and he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with heightened security measures.
After surrendering to Jodhpur Central Jail, Asaram reported several health concerns and filed a petition with the Rajasthan High Court requesting permission for treatment at Arogyam Hospital.
The case was presented before the Vacation Bench of the High Court.
Reports indicate that Asaram arrived in Jodhpur on May 28 following a verdict from the Rajasthan High Court regarding his case. His arrival attracted a gathering of supporters at Jodhpur Airport. From there, he went directly to his ashram in Pal village before undergoing a medical evaluation at AIIMS Jodhpur.
He subsequently surrendered at the Central Jail.
Previously, a Division Bench of the Rajasthan High Court, consisting of Justice Arun Monga and Justice Yogendra Kumar Purohit, upheld the life sentence imposed on Asaram by a lower court, confirming that he would remain imprisoned for the rest of his life.
The Court noted, "While the accused is confined within prison walls, the mental anguish and enduring suffering experienced by the victim are boundless."
Following this ruling, the Court revoked Asaram’s interim bail and ordered the immediate issuance of an arrest warrant, leading to his surrender to jail authorities.
The case originated in August 2013 when allegations surfaced regarding the sexual assault of a minor student at Manai Ashram in Jodhpur. In April 2018, a lower court convicted Asaram and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
