Itanagar, Jan 9: Manish Kumar Gupta, the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, emphasized the importance of collaboration among all parties involved to facilitate the effective advancement of the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project (SUMP) in the state.

On Wednesday, Gupta led a high-level meeting aimed at assessing the security measures and administrative preparations for the project's pre-feasibility report (PFR) activities, as reported by officials on Thursday.

He highlighted the project's significance for both the state and the nation, noting that it is under close scrutiny at the highest levels of government. Gupta urged all relevant departments to maintain a focused and unified approach in executing PFR-related tasks.

The meeting saw participation from key figures including Hydropower Commissioner Sonam Chombay, State DGP Anand Mohan, along with deputy commissioners and superintendents of police from Siang and Upper Siang districts.

Discussions covered various topics such as security, logistics, and inter-departmental cooperation, according to officials.

Gupta also pointed out the necessity for organized outreach efforts at the village level to provide accurate information about the project, stressing that transparent communication is vital for addressing local concerns.

An action plan was established, outlining specific responsibilities and timelines to tackle the key issues identified during the meeting.

Officials noted that the SUMP is intended to be a significant hydropower and river management project on the Siang River. In addition to generating electricity, the initiative aims to mitigate flooding by regulating river flow during peak monsoon seasons, thus reducing the intensity of downstream floods.
