Itanagar, Apr 2: Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh successfully rescued three minor girls suspected of being trafficked to Assam and apprehended a juvenile male in connection with the incident.

The girls, aged 12, 13, and 15, reportedly met the boy through social media and left their homes after being enticed by him.

A collaborative effort by police and the CRPF led to the girls' rescue in the early hours of March 31, along with the detention of a 16-year-old boy linked to the case.

According to the Superintendent of Police, initial investigations indicated that the suspect had contacted the minors via social media and allegedly coaxed them into leaving.

After spending a night at a paying guest facility, the girls were transported to Harmuti on a hired scooter, where they were held.

Harmuti is located in Assam's Lakhimpur district, while Banderdewa is situated in Papum Pare district.

The girls were eventually returned to their families, residing in the Jollang area of Papum Pare district, as confirmed by Itanagar Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar.

Following the girls' disappearance on March 30, complaints were filed at the Women Police Station.

Police initiated a search operation throughout the capital region, utilizing CCTV footage from the Smart City surveillance system, Basar reported on Wednesday.

With the aid of technical data and human intelligence, the minors were located in the Harmuti-Banderdewa vicinity near the Assam-Arunachal border.

The victims mentioned they were likely being taken to Guwahati, but timely action thwarted any further movement.

A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the girls have undergone medical examinations before reuniting with their families.

Authorities have urged parents to closely monitor their children's online interactions.
