Gangtok, Sept 24: The police in Arunachal Pradesh have made a significant breakthrough in the case involving the alleged attack on Sikkimese rapper Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, known as UNB, by arresting one individual and identifying 12 others within just 24 hours of initiating their investigation.

The suspect, Nabam Tapang, aged 22, hails from Bobia village in the Papum Pare district. He was captured in the Doimukh area near Itanagar with the help of local law enforcement.

According to Superintendent of Police Ngupok, all 13 individuals implicated in the incident have been identified, with one already in custody. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining 12 suspects, all of whom are also from Papum Pare district.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Lower Dibang Valley Superintendent of Police Ringu Ngupok, was formed following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Roing Police Station.

The attack occurred on Monday evening on a secluded road near Tiwari Gaon, approximately 39 kilometers from Roing.

UNB and his team were en route to Roing after performing at a cultural event in Anini when their vehicle was reportedly stopped.

The assailants allegedly attacked the vehicle, causing damage and physically assaulting both UNB and his manager.

During the altercation, the rapper suffered injuries to his face and head.

Roing Police were alerted about the ambush around 7:50 PM on Monday.

Despite facing initial obstacles due to the remote location, lack of witnesses, and poor mobile network coverage, investigators managed to trace the vehicle believed to have been used by the attackers.

Based on initial findings, police broadened the investigation by applying additional sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the original FIR, Case No. 48/2026.

The updated charges now include Sections 126(2), 115(2), 351(2), 118(1), 61(2), and 3(5) of the BNS.

Ongoing police operations are being conducted at various locations to apprehend the remaining suspects and uncover the motive behind the attack.
