Itanagar, June 29: On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a telephonic discussion with Chief Minister Pema Khandu to assess the ongoing flood and landslide crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, which is currently experiencing heavy rainfall.

Officials reported that Shah inquired about the most severely impacted regions, the damage inflicted by the relentless monsoon, and the state administration's readiness for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

He assured the Chief Minister of the central government's complete support for relief initiatives and any additional resources needed to manage the situation.

This review comes as continuous rainfall has led to flash floods and landslides, causing significant damage to infrastructure, disrupting road access, and impacting multiple districts throughout the state.

In the midst of these challenging circumstances, an Indian Air Force helicopter successfully rescued four individuals stranded on an island in the swollen Sisiri River at Dambuk in the Lower Dibang Valley district.

Dambuk MLA Puinnyo Apum hailed the operation as a "miracle," attributing its success to the collaborative efforts of the Lower Dibang Valley district administration, local residents, rafting teams, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local elephant owners, and the Indian Air Force.

Tragically, an Assam worker lost his life due to a landslide in Arunachal Pradesh's Anjaw district.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Rupam Rabha from Malang Bangaonburi village in Kamrup district, was operating an excavator during a night shift at Walong Chapari when a large boulder fell onto the machine.

Sources indicate that Rabha was employed by a private construction firm and was engaged in infrastructure work when the rockfall occurred.

The boulder, which dislodged from a nearby hillside, resulted in his immediate death.

This incident highlights the dangers faced by workers involved in infrastructure projects in the hilly regions of the Northeast, particularly during the monsoon season when landslides and rockfalls are more common.
