Itanagar, April 27: Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, has called on the central government to maintain its support for enhancing strategic infrastructure within the state, especially in border regions.
In a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Sunday, Khandu emphasized the importance of several key initiatives, notably the Akajan-Likabali-Bame corridor, and requested the prompt completion of ongoing projects, as stated in an official release.
The Chief Minister noted that Arunachal Pradesh has experienced remarkable infrastructure development in recent years, particularly in its border districts.
He remarked that these advancements have greatly bolstered India’s security readiness along its international borders while also enhancing the living standards of residents in remote and forward areas.
Khandu engaged in comprehensive discussions with Singh regarding the state's connectivity needs, focusing particularly on the Akajan-Likabali-Bame corridor.
This initiative involves the construction of a vital bridge over the Taro Tamak River, which is anticipated to enhance connectivity between Assam's plains and the remote districts of Upper Subansiri and Shi-Yomi in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to officials, the Border Roads Organisation is overseeing the construction of most segments of this essential corridor, playing a significant role in developing strategic road networks throughout the frontier state.
The Defence Minister assured Khandu that all proposals and infrastructure initiatives concerning Arunachal Pradesh would receive appropriate attention.
“We are thankful to Rajnath ji for his steadfast support towards the development of border infrastructure and the advancement of forward areas in Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu expressed in a social media update following their meeting.
